If you live in North Dorset, have at least one child under five and feel you would benefit from the support of a volunteer, please contact us. Once we have received your referral we aim to match you with a volunteer within 4-6 weeks.
Our organiser carefully matches specially trained volunteers with first hand parenting experience who then visit families in their own homes. They can offer:
- Support, friendship and practical assistance
- Reassurance to parents that their childcare problems are not unusual or unique
- Encouragement to strengthen parents’ confidence for the well-being and benefit of their children
- Encourage parents to put the fun back into family life
- Help to increase the independence of families
- Precious time for listening and talking
- Help with the children
- A break for parents
- Support to use local services and resources
Home-Start support is free, confidential and non-judgemental. The only criteria needed for a referral to our services is that you have to have at least one child under the age of five. All our staff and volunteers are DBS checked.
If you would like to refer yourself, or someone you know, to our service, please contact us.
Information for Professionals
In any local community Home-Start will be one of several organisations working with families and we value our relationships with other agencies. Since Home-Start is a voluntary organisation it can offer a flexible approach to individual families and can be particularly successful with difficult to reach families.
Home-Start support is not a substitute for professional services but complementary to them, and the best results are achieved through an active partnership between professionals and Home-Start.
